Nowadays, many schools in the nation are dropping To Kill a Mockingbird from the curriculum in favor of more” modern” literature. This is not right!
As our society put away this book, I must tell you why those schools dropping this book. The reason is very simple, seemingly, it is because this book has some racial problem factor. And people think, today, racial problem has already been solved. People no longer need learn how to face it. But this is all wrong, so instead of reading this boring book, why don’t why find something more fashion, this world need more fashion, right? But this is wrong! And I will tell you why.
People must face a problem, seeking a balance point between material life and spiritual life. But we can notice this balance already been broken. People has material life more then spiritual life, this is scary, because this when people lost spiritual pursuit, they will become complacent, complacent about themselves , complacent about this society. So automatically, lots of problem s will be ignored, and racism is one of this. So people would say” Oh we no longer need discuss this issue, this problem has no longer exist.” And this is actually very dangerous, the truth is, the issue still exist, and compare with 100 years ago, today is the day that we can truly solve this problem. And today is the day that we can teach our children how to face this problem. So we can’t throw away all those treasure literature, we must read it, read it ourselves and read it to our children.
Atticus and Tom Robinson
And this is just one of the reason that why high school should not drop this book.
This book published in 1960, it was immediately successful and winning the Pulitzer Prize. The plot and character are loosely based on author’s observation of her family and neighbors. And has been wrote from a 10 years girl’s view. The language in this book is warm and beautiful and the description on details is perfect. This book is not only a book about racism, in this book, you will find the lots of truths about humility, the beauty of humility and the ugly of humility. Harper Lee used her amazing satire language and magical rhetoric to show us a vivid world that hided lots of humility truth. And every time you read it you can learn something new. To Kill a Mockingbird is absolutely a rare masterwork in American literary history. We should not throw it away from as, especially in the critical moment of America.

HAHA.. Fun pictures.. Well, it's seems like you do really love the book a lot =. = The explanation of why we should keep this book in our curriculum is very reasonable. But I think you forgot to relate it to a specific character or a scenery in the book...
ReplyDeleteThanks for your reminding Sunny! I talked about alittle bit about the plot of this book in the last paragraph, but I may need add a little bit more. Thanks anyway!
DeleteI have seen a lot of racism in my life and I totally agree with you. It is a huge problem today and we can solve it if we try harder! Good job
ReplyDeleteThanks Tanlen!
DeleteGood job David! It was good that you explained both sides of the argument to help understand why we should keep it in schools. And it's true that we need to teach people how to deal with the problems in the book cuz they haven't gone away. Good visual aids as well! (:
ReplyDeleteNicely Done. Your essay was very straight forward and powerful. The way in which you wrote your essay reminded me of a call to action, to defend this American treasure.
